5 Years of Sewing with Cali Fabrics French Terry

Burda Plus Cardigan

As a Cali Fabrics Blogger, I get to order fabric every quarter… and time after time, I find myself fawning over French Terry! Cali always has a great selection of solids and prints, including cotton, rayon, poly and bamboo fabrics.

Here are a few of the French Terry projects I’ve sewn for Cali over the years: a drapy vest and a cosy cowl sweatshirt!

But wait! Digging through my blog, I realised that I bought French Terry in my very first Cali Fabrics order! Here’s a haul video from 2014 (years before the blog squad), and amazingly, in it I talk about the excellent customer service (I missed a coupon code and they went back and applied it for me!), the user-friendly website (still love the rainbow organization), the accurate descriptions (I literally mentioned this in a post I just wrote), and the high quality fabric!

I even made a waterfall cardigan out of that french terry… and 5 years later, I guess my style hasn’t changed!

Here’s my latest make:

Burda Plus Cardigan

This is a Burda Plus cardigan with some neat seam lines at the shoulders. It’s perfect in this mid-weight rayon French Terry because the fabric drapes so nicely. I left most of the edge raw, because this knit won’t curl or fray. I did hem the sleeves, because I feel like it makes the whole garment feel “finished”!

French Terry has become so popular in the last decade! It’s good for sweatshirts, leggings, joggers, dresses and pretty much anything else. When I sew for my husband I prefer a heavier weight rayon or a cotton which won’t drape close to the body, but for myself I always chose a mid-weight rayon or rayon blend like this. This particular colour is sold out, but right now I’d be tempted by this camo print, this beautiful teal, or maybe these roses!

When did you make your first Cali Fabrics order? Has anyone else been hooked for 5 years or more?

Gillian from Crafting a Rainbow

Hi! My name is Gillian, and I love to sew! I blog at craftingarainbow.wordpress.com and I run the Sewcialists.

I’ve enjoyed sewing since I was a kid, but when I started sewing clothes in 2012, it became a bit of an obsession. I’m all about wearable, comfy everyday clothes – and my wardrobe is overflowing! I’ve pulled all the colours that I love wearing into my personal colour palette, which keeps me inspired and my fabric shopping on track. I’ve ordered from Cali Fabric for years, and I’m so excited to be able to join their blogger team!

I live in Ontario (Canada) with my nerdy and awesome husband and our two cats. I’m a teacher by day, and fabric hoarder by night!
