Hey guys,
So I live in California and the weather has been so temperamental. One day it’s cold , you wake up the next day and its bright and sunny, but if you dare to go inside for a minute the next thing you know it starts raining! We’ve been having a steady streak of sun and warmth though, and so it was the perfect opportunity for me to get a head start on summer sews. We did have a real scorcher of a summer last year, and so I suspect it will be just as warm, if not warmer this year. This Teal and Purple Floral Challis Print paired with The Cascade Maxi by Chalk and Notch Patterns was the perfect fabric and pattern combo to kick off some breezy summer sews.
What I love about this pattern: It’s the perfect beginners pattern. It was a quick and easy sew. I love how simple it was to put together, and how classy the finished dress is. I also do appreciate the high low hem of the dress (like a cascading waterfall [duh!]) because she could run around and not trip over herself.
The elastic casing in the back is also a great feature to have when you have a growing child because that means the dress will be able to grow with her.
What I love about the fabric: EVERYTHING! Love the vibrance and color, not to mention, Challis has the most magnificent drape and the softest touch. It was lightweight but not see through. It was absolutely the perfect fabric for this this pattern. Abigail loved the bright purple flowers (purple being her all time favorite color).
Oh! Instead of hemming like I usually would, I decide to do a bias hem using bias tape because I really like how it just seems to add another little special touch to the finish of the garment. Visually, I like the contrast. 😉
Before I blogged, I made sure to go order more Challis just so I could have some for myself! I’d be foolish not to, but sadly it’s sold out! There’s a bunch more with an equally beautiful drape to select from HERE tho! So if you’re looking to start sewing for summer, and want something lightweight, cool, soft to the touch with an ahhhh-mazing drape, you should definitely snag some for yourself too! Go! Go! Go! Until next time!
