Baby Blue Eyes (and Dress!)

When a fabric is listed with the title “Robin’s Egg Blue” and that’s the exact color of your baby’s eyes, there’s no question as to whether or not you’re going to get that fabric!  And the icing on the cake is that this is some of the nicest jersey I’ve ever worked with.  Baby will definitely outgrow this dress before the fabric wears out, and I love it when I find a fabric like that!

This fabric has the quality equivalent of some pricier, name brand jerseys but without the brand name or the higher price tag.  It is very soft, and I can just tell without washing it 100 times that it’s not going to pill after that many washes.  You know what I mean, right?

This fabric is a mid-weight jersey with 100 4-way stretch and great recovery.  Those three little details mean that it is not see-through, and that it easily pulls over Baby’s head but does not stay stretched out afterward.  Basically, the perfect fabric for knit dresses, shirts, skirts, tees, leggings and whatever else you can imagine.

The pattern I used is a new favorite, the Janie Dress.  The circle skirt is so fun and cute on a little baby figure.  (Be sure to catch the comical picture of Baby trying to twirl in it over on my Skirt Fixation blog!)

The little 1/2 collar is probably my favorite feature of this pattern.  The whole sentimental story behind the source of the fabric for that collar is also over at Skirt Fixation.

I did lengthen the dress pattern a little bit because the fabric is such great quality, I want Baby to be able to wear this dress for a little while longer.  This fabric will be able to last until she outgrows it for sure.  Babies outgrow clothes so fast some people feel it’s just not worth it to sew for them.  But I love to sew for the littlest sizes because it takes so little fabric, and the results are so. stinking. cute!

All right, now it’s your turn.  Leave me a comment about if you sew for little kids.  Or about how perfectly this fabric compliments my baby’s eyes!  😉

  1. Absolutely adorable – both the baby and the dress! So stinking cute is right! I love sewing for my niece, even though I know she’ll grow out of the clothes, it’s so rewarding to see her wearing (and loving!) the dresses I make her, and I find sewing things on a smaller scale also helps me refine some of my sewing skills too, which is wonderful! 🙂 Beautiful job!!
