Embracing the Cozy

Jenny's Cable Cardigan 4

Well, hello there again!  I’ve missed you!  You may have noticed (or not, ha!) I’ve been absent for a while. Long story short, I injured my right leg and it is taking far too long to recover, which has kept me out of my sewing room.  So frustrating!  It’s also meant far too much time stuck on the couch.  Well, if you’ve followed along with what I tend to make, you might assume that my wardrobe was unprepared for so much lounging.  Aaaand you’d be right.  Let’s just say that the knits I do have were on heavy repeat.

So, now that I’m easing back into sewing, I thought it only made sense to start with a mini knit wardrobe.  Knits are easier to fit (well, more forgiving anyway ), quicker to sew, and they’re perfect for my physical therapy appointments and for relaxing when I’ve pushed myself too hard.  It’s time to embrace the cozy!

Luckily, it just so happened that I added this soft cotton faux-cable knit to my last Cali order.  I just love a cable knit, don’t you? And I saw so many cute, oversized cardigans popping up on Instagram while I was recovering, that I just had to make one as my first project back.  I chose McCall’s 7476 because I loved the low v-neck front and the dropped shoulders.  This is a learn-to-sew pattern, so the instructions were very straight forward and cotton being glorious cotton, it was so easy to handle, so this cardigan came together rather quickly once I got going.  I, in particular, really loved how well this fabric pressed and how effortlessly the stripes matched!  Non-matching stripes is a big pet-peeve of mine and I’ve been known to spend far too much of an evening pinning and basting seams to ensure they line up correctly.  No need here! Yay!

If you’re learning to sew, or want a great, fast project, I highly recommend this combination! Now, to be honest, I don’t love this size or shape on me, but this was definitely one of those items that I did not want to take off once I tried it on! Completely ignoring the near-summer weather we’re having here.  It has such a warm (but breathable), cozy, old friend kind of feel to it. You know the kind of garment I mean.   I just know I’m going to get so much wear out of it!

Now wait, I said mini wardrobe, didn’t I?  One cardigan does not a wardrobe make.  Well, I’m very pleased to say I also made the tee shirt and leggings shown in the photos.  Hope over to my Instagram page to read more about them.  And, stayed tuned for another Cali knit item post, coming soon!  Yep, I’m on a roll!

Note: Sadly, it seems this one has sold out.  But, check out some of Cali’s other great cotton knits here and cable knits here!

Happy sewing! x
