Fergus Cosplay

Hey everyone! Michelle from Falafel and the Bee here. Today I am sharing one of the cosplay costumes I am making for the local ComicCon coming up. We are all going as the family from the movie Brave. My older daughter’s Merida costume is already done (you can see it here). I made it with some wonderfully thick and drapey Teal Midweight Stretch Ponte De Roma.

My husband, of course, is going as King Fergus! Well, a much slimmer, whiter Fergus. Ha!

His cape, which is really the most essential part of Fergus’ costume, in my opinion ( he is the Bear King after all) was made with this incredible Black Mongolian Faux Fur .

It is shaggy and long and looks awesome on. Because I had only 1 yard, I turned it sideways, and it worked perfectly. I didn’t have to alter it at all. The only thing I did, was link the two sides with a chain. I had enough fur to make him one leg a warmer, too.

For his sporran (the pouch around his waist) and his sash, I chose this Dark Brown Leather Look Fabric. It was super easy to work with, and is really sturdy!

For the actual convention, we still need to make a few adjustments. I am going to distress that belt a bit, and my husband is going to shape his beard more like Fergus.

He likes it much better without the helmet and fake hair. I think he looks like he belongs in Game of Thrones this way, which isn’t bad either!

Thank you Cali Fabrics for having me and providing such fabulous fabrics, as always.

  1. Great Fergus! He needs ridiculously thick and shaggy fake eyebrows! That would seal it!
