Filling Gaps

Hi Everyone! Wow. I just realized that the last time I was here I made a cardigan! You would think that I could at least try to be more original. The thing is, it’s May. Me Made May is in full swing and come hell or high water….I was gonna be prepared this year!

So here you have it….jeans and a cardi! My original plan was to make jeans and a Morris blazer, but this french terry was lighter that I had expected ( you can actually see the polka dots on my shirt through it) but perfect for a summer cardigan. In my last post I mentioned that next time I made a cardigan I would try the Blackwood Cardigan.ย Well, I did and I love it. I am especially pleased with the Pale Pink Heather french terry. It’s light and so soft, perfect for t-shirts as well.

As a side note, if your interested to know what my polka dot top is….it’s Simplicity 1690, made quite a while ago.

Once I started to make my own jeans, the hunt for denim began. So I thought I would see what Califabrics had to offer. I ordered this 9 oz stretch denim which is out of stock right now but I plan to keep my eye on it…to order more if it comes in. I am really pleased with it!

The weight is nice. Not to heavy, not to light…just right with the perfect amount of stretch. So fingers crossed…more comes in stock. I used the Ginger Jeans pattern…of course. I had a few issues putting them together this time but it had nothing to do with the fabric or pattern…it was just me…goofing up. Does that happen to anyone else? Do you just have off days?

I know that I will wear both of these a lot. They’re not perfect but still perfect additions to my handmade wardrobe and so handy for Me Made May….I guess I can’t wear dresses everyday.

Are you participating in MMM? Do you find it helpful for finding and then filling gaps in your handmade wardrobe?

  1. Great staples! Both your jeans and cardigan came out so well.

I just finished a pair of Gingers AND a Blackwood, too! They are definitely good to have around for MMM. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. So cute! I’m glad you liked Blackwood! I think I need a long cardi or two in brighter spring/summer colours – all of mine feel very wintery, and I miss wearing them!

    1. The Blackwood is great and a really quick make. I just finished telling husband that I’m going to make a few more. Thank Gillian!

  3. Love your cardigan – the colour, the length everything about it is gorgeous! Those Ginger jeans are an amazing and inspiring fit ๐Ÿ™‚ I have signed up to take Heather Lou’s online jeans course – with patterns & ebook printed out on hand, how can I go wrong? ๐Ÿ™‚ The notion of having a perfect fitting pair of jeans after putting up with ok fit for 40 years is stunning to me.

  4. Both pieces (well, all three) are so great! I’ve been working more on filling gaps in my wardrobe too. Not quite as fun as dresses, but they get far more wear. I’ll keep my eye on that denim too – that’s one item I still have yet to tackle! Glad to gear you’re so pleased with the Blackwood Cardigan after sewing the McCalls. I ended up in the same boat, cutting that McCalls just before the Blackwood was released ๐Ÿ™‚
