French Terry is probably my favorite fabric – and with fall finally showing itself here in Northern Virginia, it was the perfect excuse to sew up a Kyoto Sweater in a beautiful French Terry.
The Kyoto Sweater from Papercut Patterns is a ruffle sleeve sweater or tee featuring drop shoulders, short or long sleeve options and hem and cuff bands. I sewed up the sweater version in a size extra small – it does run large so even the extra small is pretty big on me!
My favorite feature of the sweater is of course, the ruffle! I was dreading trying to hem the ruffle so instead I decided to use a small rolled hem on my serger and it was a perfect fit! If you haven’t used the rolled hem feature on your serger I would highly recommend it – usually the manual has recommended settings and the recommended setting needed no adjustment for this.
One of the most versatile parts about French terry is it comes in a variety of different weights. The French Terry I used for this Kyoto was the perfect weight for a lightweight sweater for those chillier fall days. While unfortunately this French Terry is out of stock – this beautiful charcoal version is really similar! Floral knits are usually my first choice for knits because I think they add a feminine spin on many basics.
I paired my Kyoto Sweater with a pair of Ginger Jeans and metallic flats for one of my favorite secret pajamas outfits!
With fall here and winter right around the corner, there are so many great patterns that would be great fits for French Terry. Some of my favorites include the Linden Sweatshirt from Grainline Studios, Hudson Pants from True Bias, and any sort of wrapped cardigan – including the Laurelhurst from Straight Stitch Designs and Cocoon Sweater from Patterns for Pirates.
