Hi! I’m Heather!
Hi! I’m Heather and I love to sew! I fell in love with garment sewing about 3 years ago when my husband gave me a serger for Christmas. While googling serger tutorials, I stumbled upon sewing blogs and the wonderful world of Indie Patterns. I couldn’t believe that there was this huge community of people out there, making really fashionable clothes that didn’t look homemade at all. How was that possible? Up until then, my only experience sewing clothes was making oversized boxer shorts in Home Ec class in junior high. It took me a little while to work up the nerve, but I finally took the plunge and sewed myself an Anna dress by By Hand London. It actually turned out surprisingly well, and I still wear it today. Needless to say, after that I was hooked! I became obsessed with fabric, patterns, and all things sewing. I now have a closet full of well-fitting, “me-made” clothes, and I happily wear them everyday (there is nothing better than getting a compliment on outfit that you made with your own two hands!). If you’d like a peek into my closet, check out my blog at thepugandneedle.com.
Sewing actually came really naturally to me (who knew?), and I’ve kept little journals for myself since I was very young, so writing a sewing blog just seemed like the natural next step. I love sharing this beautiful craft with the world (hooray for the Internet!), and being a part of the community that inspired me. When I was first learning to sew (and still now) I was a sponge for information about sewing. I loved reading about people’s experiences, what they had learned, and how they got their garments to fit. Reading a sewing blog is like having a little peek into another sewist’s sewing room and closet. What could be better than that? I am so lucky to have made many great friends through blogging and Instagram, and I look forward to continuing to do so. I try not to take myself or my sewing too seriously, and I do my best to just have fun! After all, if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, then why do it!
I live in Canada, and when I’m not sewing, you can usually find me hanging out with my husband and our 2 senior pugs.
I am excited to be a part of the Cali&Co team!
