Well hello there Califabrics blog followers! How are you? What are you thinking of the new Califabrics blog so far? Pretty sweet right? Such a great group of sewists, if I do say so myself. Ha!
Anyway, I’m back with another pyjama themed post. I seem to be all about the lounge wear lately. When I spotted this beautiful rayon voile, I knew it was destined to become another pair of Carolyn Pajamas (how do you spell pyjamas? In Canada we spell it with a “y”, but Closet Case Files spelled it the American way with an “a”). I’ve made this pattern up a couple of times now, and I love it! I wear my other two sets all the time, and I knew that a luxe pair of lightweight rayon pyjamas would be perfect for summer.
For this pair, I decided to forgo the piping, and keep it simple, so I sewed up View A, but with a short sleeve shirt. I had to shorten the legs of the pants by 4 inches, and the top by 2 inches. What can I say? I’m short. I did however, want to spice them up a little bit, so I went with yellow buttons, and I’m really happy with how they look.
This pattern is quite easy to sew if you’ve sewn a shirt with buttons and a collar before (if not, you can still do it, I promise, just take your time). The notched collar and facing, is a little different than a regular collar, but the instructions are fantastic and while you might shake your head and think, “how is this ever going to work out?”. Trust me, it does. I am not a huge fan of how the back facing was eliminated, but I understand that most people like it better that way. Speaking of facings, the only real deviation from the instructions I made was to topstitch the facings downs. Now I know a lot of people don’t like that look, but personally, I am a huge fan of topstitching, and I have a pair of RTW pyjamas that have it done that way, and I really like it. Anyway, the reason to do this is to cut back on ironing. If the facings are stitched down then don’t get wrinkly and all out of position, which really bugs me on my other rayon pair.
Anyway, I think that’s all I have to say about this pattern for now. I see a few more sets in my future though. My dream is to have a different set for everyday. Is that crazy? I do wear them a lot though, and it’s nice to feel a bit put together when I’m going outside with the dogs right before bed and in the morning. And let’s be honest, all day on the weekends too. 😉
I’ll leave you with a gratuitous pug photo. I tried to get a flat lay of these, but my little pug Shanny, was not having it. Anytime, you lay something on the floor, she claims it as hers. And really how can I blame her, this fabric just feels so nice!
