Magical Fabric (that gives you more time to sew!)

Do you have children that prevent you from sewing as much as you want to?  (How come they need to eat so often anyway?)  How would you like to suddenly have more time to sew?  And what if a fabric could give you this extra time?  Well, if you answered yes to these questions, I have a fabric suggestion for you!

Baby hand

If you’ve ever been around reversible sequin fabric, you know what I’m talking about!  Once they put their hands on it, they will be occupied for a good solid hour, I promise!  And so you can sew and sew your heart out.

CaliFabrics has a whole bunch of different colors of reversible sequin fabric.  We really had a hard time deciding which one to order!  Finally, we settled on the metallic blue and gold reversible sequin fabric.

As close as I can figure out, each sequin is a different color on each side.  Then each one is tied on in perfect rows by fairies using the hair of unicorns.  That’s what my 5 year old told me, and it’s easier to understand than the Google explanation!  (Actually, here’s a video of the machine making this fabric.)

Here are some things my kids discovered they can do with the reversible sequin fabric.

Writing

Write words

All ages

Divide it into sections and drive their cars and tractors on their half.  (As you can see, my kids of ALL ages were captivated by this fabric!)

Boys

Color wars (who can turn it all their color faster?)

Dance Party

Dance party in the sparkle reflections

And more…at this point I snuck away to sew.

Just beware to not touch the reversible sequin fabric yourself…or you might look up an hour later and find you haven’t sew a single stitch!

While my kids were perfectly content to play with the fabric right off the roll, I decided to attach it to a board for more structured backing.  You can find my tutorial over on the Skirt Fixation blog.
