Mommy & Me Chambray

Hooray for Chambray!  It’s one of my favorite fabrics, and I’m so delighted with all the talented chambray creations this week!  Now I’ve got so many ideas on what to make with all the chambray in my stash.  And if I ever run out, CaliFabrics has a beautiful collection.

Feeling patriotic, I jumped on the new star chambray fabric.  My daughter has outgrown all her dresses from last summer.  With that in mind, I sewed a dress for her using the Laramie Shirt and Dress pattern.

The one change I made was to add quite a bit of length in hopes that it fits her the whole summer.  I should have added width since I was adding so much length, but that was easily remedied by opening up the slits at the sides a little farther.  I love the belted look of this dress.

On the inside facing I tucked away some red and white striped chambray just to keep the patriotic theme going.  Also, this fabric is amazing to work with as you can probably tell by the topstitching!

The collarless view of this dress is a new style for my daughter, but she said she kind of likes it.  The 3/4 length sleeves also roll up and can be buttoned with the tab for when (if?) the weather finally warms up.

With the red and white chambray fabric, I sewed myself a skirt.  I used a new-to-me pattern, the Vientian Skirt.  For my height I added 6 inches to the length.  This is a pretty normal adjustment for me as I’m 6 feet tall.

This skirts has pockets, which means it will probably get worn over and over again this summer!  It’s also lined, so it’s quick to pop on and go, with no worry about exposure.

Me back

It was great fun to play with the direction of the stripes on this skirt.  And while I didn’t get them lined up and matched perfectly everywhere on the skirt, the back is stripe matching perfection!

Finally, I sewed myself a Cheyenne Tunic using Pepper Greenwich fine chambray.  It’s just a basic button up shirt, but one of those that ends up as a closet staple because it literally goes with everything else I own!  This chambray is such a treat to sew up.  It stays right where it belongs while cutting and doesn’t shift while topstitching.  I did not skip any of the topstitching on this top because it’s such a pretty touch and was easy to do with this chambray.

Well, what did you think of chambray week?  It was so inspirational to me to see the wide variety of chambray fabrics and the garments sewn with it!  Be sure to grab some chambray for yourself (you know Me Made May is coming up, and you need some!) and sew yourself a wardrobe staple!
