The Perfect Summer Skirt in Rayon Gauze
I love when I get the ‘What’s New’ emails from Cali Fabrics. I always immediately have to check out all the new goodies that have hit the shop. When this beauty arrived a few weeks ago I was so intrigued. I loved the bright vibrant colors and thought it’d be a fun addition to my summer wardrobe. It’s a rayon gauze and while I can’t get enough of rayon challis in the warmer weather, I’d never sewn with a rayon gauze before. Gauze seems to be all the rage so I snatched some up and was so excited when it arrived in a flash.
It has the crinkly texture of gauze but the lovely drape of a rayon- the perfect blend for a skirt or dress. The Allegro Pattern from Love Notions was high on my list to sew and I struggled trying to decide which view to do. I’m a huge fan of the cropped pants version but worried this fabric would be a bit overwhelming. I decided to go with the simple short skirt, knowing it’d also double well as a swimsuit coverup. It was a super fast sew and the fabric sewed up beautifully. It’s not slippery at all and really came together great!
I really can’t get over the bright colors! It’s so fun for summer but I think it will transition well into fall with a denim jacket and chucks.
There’s a handful of rayon gauze in the shop right now I keep eyeing. I’m so tempted to order this one for a fall maxi dress! I’ll definitely keep my eye out for this fabric blend in the future. So yummy!
Beautiful skirt! WOW! I’ve never heard of this fabric before – I’m just about to make a nice sleeveless summer top out of a cotton gauze I bought a few months ago but the drape and lightness of rayon would be lovely in a rayon and the colours! Rayon can take such vibrant dyes.
Love your skirt! I wasn’t sure if I’d like that one so bought the black and white floral stripe a few days ago as my first rayon gauze. Now I’m even more excited to use it. And might need that beauty as well’
