Did I get you yesterday with my April Fool’s joke? Maybe a little? It’s time to show you what I really made with that lovely soft sweater knit!
I didn’t lie when I said this hot pink heathered sweaterknit was super soft, drapey, and my favorite color! And I really love how the heathered black tones down the brightness. As stated on the Cali Fabrics website, it’s a fairly loosely woven knit, meaning big ‘holes’ between the stitches. This gives it a gorgeous drape and semi-sheerness.
With 2 yards at 60″ wide, I had plenty of fabric to make two pieces, so I made a little sweater twinset! Yes, a twinset. I am a firm believer that a twinset never goes out of style, and love the way the cropped length on the shrug and the hi-low hem on the tee give it a trendy update.
Due to the loose weave, the top definitely needs a cami beneath when worn alone, but it was just the look I was going for! Check out that sheer sleeve in the closeup.
I used the New York Minute pattern, pared down on its options, to make the short-sleeved sweater with hi-low hem. To give the neckline facing a little stability, I used a hot pink jersey knit also from Cali.
I used the Copeland Cardi pattern to make the cropped tie-front shrug. It’s the perfect size to toss in a bag and have handy for an evening breeze or, my pet peeve, overzealous air conditioning! The rayon blend sweater knit is the perfect weight to keep off a chill but not add too much warmth.
I had both PDF patterns printed and cut to my size before I started, but from cutting fabric to finish took me less than 2 hours total for both pieces! As sweater knit goes, this was fairly easy to sew, though it did leave lots of little bits all over my sewing room. So keep your vacuum handy.
