Are you ever surprised by a fabric crush?  While scrolling through the CaliFabrics new fabric selection, I came across this Earth Floral London Calling Cotton Lawn by Robert Kaufman, and somehow it just spoke to me!  What did it say, you ask?  “Buy me and use me everywhere!”  Who am I to disobey the siren song of fabric?

For my older daughter, I sewed the Apple Picking Dress pattern by Oliver + S.  As you can see, this is not a dress, I modified it to be a blouse with a peplum because it suits her style so much better.  More information about exactly how I did this over at Skirt Fixation.  Since I’m sewing with summer in mind, I allowed some room for her to grow.  The on trend neck bow and double row of buttons up the front are very nice additions to this pattern.

This girl has been requesting more maxi skirts in her life, so I sewed up one for her using organic bamboo jersey.  It’s soft and feminine and the perfect piece to pair with the looser flowing top.  I used the Jocole A-line yoga skirt pattern and sewed her a size 6 width with size 12 length.  It seems like she gets her tall genes from her mom!

This lawn is going to be the perfect weight for this blouse through summer.  Besides being simply gorgeous, it’s lightweight and breathes really well.  I used a brown linen from my personal stash for the bow and sleeve hem accents.

And since I probably don’t even have to say it anymore (F.A.B.R.I.C. S.C.R.O.O.G.E.) and there was some fabric left, I made some things for baby.  I’ve been sewing a capsule wardrobe for her as she has just attained her 12 month size.  More about that in my next post, but here’s the spoiler alert: her entire capsule wardrobe was inspired by this lawn fabric!

I sewed her a bubble skirt, because it just doesn’t get cuter than babies in bubble skirts, right?  And then you throw in a tiny bonnet made from chambray and scrooged scraps, of course!  (Google is telling me that’s not a word, so as the original Fabric Scrooge, I just invented it, okay?)  My oldest daughter added just a touch of embroidery, and it’s pure perfection.

Part of Baby’s capsule wardrobe includes this onesie (Eeny Meeny Miny Moe Bodysuit pattern by Peekaboo Pattern Shop) made from premium cotton jersey and a heart appliquéd on top from a scrap of the lawn.  (Are you convinced about my scrooge-ing of fabric scraps yet?  Also, add that word to your sewing vocabulary!)  I cut the heart shape using my pinking sheers so the edges wouldn’t fray, and just topstitched it onto the shirt.

Her leggings are made from leftovers of big sister’s organic bamboo jersey fabric, and I’m assuming you know why.  😉  They are the Lollipop Leggings pattern from Peekaboo Pattern Shop.  We’ve found these to be the best fitting leggings for both baby and big sister.

Alright, I’ll leave you with a sneak peek of more of the capsule wardrobe I made for my baby and of course there’s a bit of the lawn fabric inside, used as binding.  I couldn’t let you down!
